About Us
C. Letchworth Bits & Spurs is built on tradition, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the working horse.
Over 50 years ago in New Mexico, Chuck Letchworth began making bits out of necessity. As a horse trainer, he wasn’t satisfied with the bits he was using—so he set out to build his own. What started as a personal pursuit quickly gained attention in the arena. As Chuck competed in his handmade bits, other riders took notice and began asking for their own. From that point on, a craft was born—one rooted in function, feel, and trust.
Today, that same dedication continues in our family-run shop in Harwinton, Connecticut. Every bit and spur is made by hand, one at a time, using quality materials and time-tested techniques. Chuck still engraves each piece himself and continues to play an active role in the shop, alongside engraver Holly Spagnola, whose creativity and attention to detail help define our finished work.
In 2019, Chuck’s son, Cole Letchworth, carried the business forward alongside partners Eugene Spagnola and Brian Jenkins. With a deep respect for the foundation his father built, Cole is committed to continuing that same tradition of quality, craftsmanship, and honesty—ensuring that every piece reflects the standards and values the brand was built on.
Our designs are shaped by real use, not theory. Every piece we make is balanced with purpose and built to perform—whether it’s in the practice pen, the show arena, or out on the ranch. We believe in gear that works as hard as the people who use it.
At C. Letchworth Bits & Spurs, we don’t just make products—we build tools meant to be trusted, used every day, and passed down for generations.
